Overview

Due to the proximity of the VRA Thermal Plant to the sea, continuous rust control and corrosion management are critical for maintaining the integrity and efficiency of the facility’s infrastructure. VNR Limited was contracted to implement an extensive corrosion protection program to safeguard critical equipment, pipelines, and structural components against the harsh coastal environment.

Scope of Work

• Corrosion Assessment & Surface Preparation:
  • Conducted thorough inspections to identify rust-prone areas and assess corrosion levels.
  • Utilized abrasive blasting, mechanical cleaning, and chemical treatments to remove existing rust.
• Protective Coating Application with Sherwin Williams Paints:
  • Applied high-performance anti-corrosion coatings, including epoxy-based primers, polyurethane topcoats, and zinc-rich coatings, to enhance durability.
  • Used Stopaq Wrapping Band Systems for pipeline and flange protection, ensuring long-term resistance to saltwater-induced corrosion.
• Structural & Equipment Protection:
  • Treated storage tanks, pipelines, heat exchangers, steel supports, and plant structures to prevent corrosion damage.
  • Installed cathodic protection systems, including sacrificial anodes and impressed current systems, to reduce electrochemical corrosion.
• Maintenance & Monitoring Program:
  • Developed a preventive maintenance plan for continuous rust control.
  • Deployed corrosion monitoring sensors to track environmental impact and coating performance over time.
