Who Should Attend

This course is designed for industrial and marine painters, coating applicators, and contractor personnel who need to be certified in hand/power tool surface preparation and brush/roll application.

Prerequisites & Certification Path

Work Experience: A minimum of 150 hours of documented experience in surface preparation and paint application is required for full certification.

Provisional Certification:Students without the required hours can take the course and exams. They will receive a letter of completion and have one year to gain the necessary experience to become certified.

Ethics Requirement: Successful completion of the “Ethics for the Corrosion Professional” eCourse is also required for certification.

Corrosion fundamentals and control processes

Solvent cleaning and hand/power tool cleaning to SSPC standards (SP 2, 3, 11, 15)

Assessing surface cleanliness using visual standards (SSPC-VIS 3)

Coating basics for brush and roll application

Practical brush and roll application techniques Use of wet and dry film thickness gauges and determining cure
