Concrete Roof Repair Works at Kotoka International Airport

Introduction

This report outlines the successful repair of defects on the concrete roof at Kotoka International Airport. The project addressed critical issues of water leakage and structural integrity by implementing a multi-product solution from STOPAQ. The goal was to provide a durable, long-term, and effective repair to ensure the facility remains protected from water ingress and environmental damage.

Problem Statement

The concrete roof at the airport exhibited defects that led to water leakage. This compromised the interior of the building and posed a risk to its structural components. A solution was required to create a permanent watertight barrier that could be applied efficiently without the need for traditional methods like plugs or sealing rings, and that would also address potential corrosion and allow for a finished, paintable surface.

Solution

The project team corrected the defects using a combination of advanced STOPAQ products, each chosen for its specific properties:

STOPAQ FN 2100 & STOPAQ Mortar FR (Flame Retardant): This combination was used to create a permanent, watertight barrier, effectively stopping all leakage problems. The ease of application of STOPAQ FN 2100 eliminated the need for plugs, connecting rings, and other traditional sealing components.
STOPAQ Mortar WR (Water Resistant): This specially designed mortar was utilized for exterior sections of the repair, ensuring resilience against weather and environmental factors.
Sealtaq Blockr Band Roofing: This unique, cold-applied viscous polymer patch was applied to address airtightness, prevent water ingress, and inhibit corrosion. Its key advantages include:
- Excellent Adhesion: Adheres strongly to various substrates, including concrete, PE, and PP, without requiring blasting or grinding.
- Durability: Offers long-term performance and is fully resistant to water with very low gas and water vapor permeability.
- Paintable Surface: Features a greyish polyester non-woven fiber top layer that allows for immediate painting or coating after installation, providing a clean, finished look.

The coating team professionally applied the Sanitile 945 SL system throughout the new laboratory floors.

Outcome

The application of the STOPAQ system resulted in a comprehensive and successful repair of the concrete roof. The integrated solution permanently sealed all leaks, creating a robust, watertight, and airtight barrier.
